Confession 17 - From our Buddy…. January 5, 2009
A Xmas gift! (And who doesn’t like gifts - even though I’m posting it late)
A Xmas gift! (And who doesn’t like gifts - even though I’m posting it late)
Happy New Year, gang! I’m still finding it weird to type 2009 (and for that matter, January) but I’m sure it’ll become natural soon enough.
I’ve spent a lot of the holidays working and catching up on a few projects, but I still feel rested and ready for the new year and all the possibilities that are on the horizon.
The main project right now is our new Cooking show, and I’m having so much fun doing it. The team is coming together, and we even recruited the amazingly talented COOK (aka Mike Ryan) to do our theme music. Cook? On a Cooking Show? Was meant to be! ha ha! (If you want to come on board, just drop me a line and tell me what you do)
And yes…even though I haven’t written all of you back, I have read the emails, and heard the comments. A lot of you were asking me about New Year’s Resolutions from me, and although I don’t usually commit to changing I thought this year I’d give it a try.
Erin’s New Year’s Resolutions for 2009:
1) Blog daily. (see? It’s in writing. You can now call me out if I miss a day). I will continue to support Indy Artists (of all kinds) and hopefully make you smile sometimes or just make you think. I promise.
2) Give back to the community. For this one, I think I’m going to chose a cause that I care about/feel connected to each month. I think that depending on the cause will depend on what I do. Stay tuned…I’m sure to be asking for help on this one.
3) Meet more creative souls that would be fun to work with. Yah…that’s pretty generic, but that way I can’t fail. Essentially, I know there are a lot of great and talented people out there, and if more of us meet up then I know we’ll create some amazing work.
Is that enough for now? I hope so, because before the day gets going too much, I wanted to take some time to enter Hope’s Gift in the Seattle Film Festival. The Deadline is coming up, and I think it’s the right venue for Hope.
And just so you know I care that you come by from time to time to check out what’s going on, here’s my gift to you. A New Year’s spot that I love.
If you haven’t visited here yet, stop by and tell them I said hello!
The Top Ten Blogs of the Week are (in no particular order):
Well….there’s been a lot on the go these days. In some ways it’s great, and in other ways it’s not so great.
I know there was a huge gap in the last time I wrote a ‘diary’ but the people I was working with at the time would read my posts and then get in an absolute tizzy.
“What!??? You can’t write that!!!”
Things have changed now with the teams I have and the projects on the go, and I feel secure enough to just tell it all like it is.
So…what’s new with me.
Well, Max (the flying dream-inspirer who attempted to fly mount Robson) showed up on my door one day and decided he was done. He didn’t go into too much detail, other than to say that the project wasn’t going the way he had hoped. We wish him all the best, and we’re sure that one day, all his dreams will be realized!
The colour guard project was another one that was taking up a lot of my time and energy. I loved the team and the concept, and the work that was being created. The only problem (and this is a biggie) is that not enough other people loved it to make it viable. It’s one of those tough spots to be in. Despite how much you think the project is worth, if you can’t get funding, it means nothing really. Having to put in all those hours in every week and not get paid is tough on anyone. The obstacle we faced is that only a handful of people in Canada has ever heard of the Colour Guards before. This (according to the broadcasters, and funders) makes the project ‘unmarketable’. I wish the team all the best, but I had to go elsewhere and move on. It was a tough decision, but life is too short. I think the lesson I can take away from this one is to not let my emotions get involved in a project. I needed to take a more detached look at the project before I committed, which I didn’t. I loved it, and assumed that everyone else would to.
Now while this might all have the outward illusion of being negative, it’s really all for the best. I now can focus on the two projects I’m most passionate about, and that have had the most positive responses: The Cooking Intervention and Your Style.
I’m just going to talk about the Cooking Intervention right now, because the rest of the team for Your Style has been pretty busy lately, and it’s been awhile since we’ve had some time to talk. More on it later.
For now, the Cooking Interventation has really taken flight. We’ve already done a swack of filming, and will be starting up production again in January. The launch of the site will be ready by the new year as well, and the sponsors have been flooding to us!
It’s exciting doing something you feel passionate about, and getting recognized for the work you do. I LOVE the Cooking Intervention, and the way it’s growing. I love how we’re now just having the lead learn to cook on air, but that we are rounding up a team of Executive Chefs from some of the finest restaurants to teach her (like Matt Derkson from the Point! Hello? How cool is that?) It will be informative, funny, and a blast to work on!
Next week, you’ll have to check in for the first of many contests we have scheduled to promote our show. It’s gonna be big!!!
Thanks again for sticking with us! It means a lot!
Tim Ferriss shows us ho to peel an egg (I SWEAR…it’s worth the watch!)
